Recently, my family and I celebrated the life of my sweet Grandma Austin, who just recently passed away. It was both a bitter, yet sweet memorial service. I was able to reflect on some of the memories I have had with my grandma (and boy do I have a lot!). I used to go over her house (which seemed to always be filled with candy) and play with her huge stamp collection. It was my FAVORITE thing to do! I also remember playing with her stuffed toys and her cubby little chihuahua. Her house was both a safe haven and a playground. And I sure loved it.
Fortunately, I have had the opportunity over the last couple years to often visit with her. She absolutely loved holding both my children and I enjoyed listening to her tell stories of her own children when they were young. As her health challenges started to take their toll, I was at her bedside still able to visit with her. I even painted her nails her favorite lavender color. Now that she is gone I look back at all the fond memories I have had with her and feel blessed that I have her in her in my life. She left behind her husband, 4 daughters, 14 grand kids, and 15 great grand kids. We miss her dearly.
As we celebrated her life on that Friday afternoon, I though these words read in her eulogy perfectly summed up my Grandma and her impact in our lives. It reads:
As Pat endured, her faith became her constant companion. As she emulated the attributes of the Savior, it also became her legacy. This legacy is faith, endurance, compassion, kindness, meekness, and a pure of heart. Although she will be dearly missed, her legacy continues within her family. We love you.
She was such a sweet lady (and the BEST grandma!!!) and she will be dearly missed.
