Autumn Fashion Advice

Fall is COMING!

Which means it is time to bundle up and bring out the scarfs and jackets! Fall fashion is in full-swing!

I may not be a fashion blogger, but let me tell you as a photographer, clients are always asking fashion questions like,” What should I wear?”, “What colors look best together?”, “Is this going to clash?”. And most of the time I recommend they send me various photos of potential outfits and I essentially coach them (or just pick out their outfits) because they are so overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.  Choosing your clothes is half the battle for beautiful photos so you need to choose with care.

So, with that said, I thought I’d give a little advice to those who struggle a little with fashion. I am no fashion guru (I am often spotted in oversized spit-up stained shirts), but I DO know what looks best in photos and even what looks best in certain locations.

One suggestion I always give my clients is LAYER, LAYER, LAYER. Ladies and gents, that means scarfs, hats, jackets, cardigans, vests, sweaters, etc. This includes ruffles, accessories like necklaces, buttons, lace, etc. Layers give dimension and texture to photos and also add personality.

Here are some prime examples of layering!

My clients are also concerned with colors. In fall there are a few color schemes that compliment the season nicely. Neutrals such as tans, browns, creams, and grays are always a good choice to go with during this time. These more low-key colors can add a simple balance to the colorful fall leaves (or in Arizona, dead grass) haha!  In addition, darker colors are a great compliment to autumn like deep reds, oranges, purples, yellows, etc. These colors add more POP to the photos. Don’t be afraid to mix and match! Whether you are looking for a simple or sporadic color scheme, these options are fitting for fall.

Here are some examples of fall color schemes.

As you can see, fall fashion has endless possibilities!

So, get creative and get cute for fall!
